Our Story
Born from a deep love of bold Mexican flavors and a passion for community, Cabana Taco has been serving authentic taco cabana cuisine in San Antonio since 2009. We believe food is more than a meal — it's a celebration. Our commitment to fresh ingredients, tacocabana traditions, and heart-first hospitality defines everything we do.
Our Heritage
Cabana Taco was founded in 2009 by Chef Marco Rivera, a San Antonio native who grew up watching his grandmother prepare handmade tortillas in a small kitchen in the Westside neighborhood. Marco's dream was simple: bring the authentic spirit of the taco cabana to the streets of San Antonio — fresh, honest, and made with love.
What started as a single food stand at the Pearl Farmers Market quickly grew into the beloved destination it is today. Word spread fast. People came for the tacos, stayed for the atmosphere, and returned for the community. Within two years, Cabana Taco had opened its first brick-and-mortar location on Northwest Loop 410.

Chef Marco Rivera launches Cabana Taco at the Pearl Farmers Market with just 5 menu items, a portable grill, and his grandmother's salsa recipe. Lines form within the first hour.
After two years of farmer's market success, Cabana Taco opens its first brick-and-mortar restaurant. The grand opening draws over 400 guests and sells out of everything by 2 PM.
San Antonio Weekly awards Cabana Taco its top honor, cementing our place as the city's premier taco cabana destination. Catering services launch to meet overwhelming demand.
We go digital, launching our online ordering platform and dedicated catering division. Corporate clients, weddings, and community events can now enjoy Cabana Taco at scale.
During the pandemic, Cabana Taco partners with local charities to donate over 8,000 meals to frontline workers and families in need. Community first — always.
The Cabana Taco franchise program launches, allowing entrepreneurs across Texas to bring the authentic tacocabana experience to their communities. First 3 franchisees onboard.
